For most coaches, there's something way more scary than Freddie Kruger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Mike Myers from Halloween, and Vecna from Stranger Things…
You guessed it…
The biggest nightmare when starting your business is realising that even if you want a totally in-person, face-to-face coaching business, you still need to use… TECHNOLOGY.
This often comes as a bit of a shock to people who are starting up their coaching business for the first time.
In fact, here are some of the delights you can look forward to if you're serious about making big money as a professional coach. (Note: you can actually use this list as a step-by-step guide to setting up the tech you need to run your coaching business):
- Put up a website that you can edit yourself in the back-end
- Hook up your website with a software that easily creates opt-in pages and sales pages
- Get your email system (auto-responder) to generate some html code that you can insert into your sales page or lead-page so you can capture people's names and email addresses from your website
- Set up an automation to automatically send people the ‘gift' that they opt-in for
- Send broadcast emails out using your email system (so everyone on your list receives an email at the same time)
- Send ‘autoresponder' emails out using your email system (so people can get certain emails a set number of days after they join your list)
- Set up a payment gateway that hooks up with your bank account
- Set up a shopping cart that you can use to enter people's card information so that they're billed automatically every month
- Hook up your payment gateway with your shopping cart so that when you charge people inside your shopping cart, the money actually shows up a few days (or hours) later in your bank account
- Set up ‘product order forms' in your shopping cart that match the price points of your coaching programs and info-products
- Hook up your sales page with the order form in your shopping cart
- And, if you want to get fancy and have information products, you'll also want to hook up the ‘product' in your shopping cart with the membership site where you host the information product videos.
- Set up a sequence of automated and broadcast emails people get when they buy your coaching program(s) that informs them of the day, time, link, etc.
- Setting up an online calendar system that you link to in certain emails so that multiple people can schedule themselves into your calendar at convenient times
That's the absolute bare minimum of tech set up you'll need to run a coaching business that's capable of going from zero to multi-six figures. There are a few more steps if you want it to get to 7-figures, mostly to do with the ease of setting up your information products and affiliate links, to make it easier for people to promote you.
Sure, you can skip a lot of these steps, but you'll end up creating a lot of clutter and mess and coming across a bit unprofessional… and spend a lot of time responding to questions like: “where's my stuff, when are our sessions, where can I find the Zoom link, etc… “
Or worse, you'll be trying to track and chase down individual clients to fulfil their payment plans (instead of the system doing that for you and locking them out if they don't respond).
