That’s about as smart as dopamine-addicted kids trying to learn mental arithmetic by watching TikTok videos. 

There may be the odd thing they learn here and there… but within about 6 seconds they’ll be watching someone gossip about a celebrity or an ‘influencer’ ripping into another ‘influencer’ ultimately influencing the next generation to become professional idiots. 

If you want to really learn maths, nothing beats sitting down with a pencil and paper and ideally a good teacher who can walk you through it, step by step… and then doing dozens (or hundreds) of drills to master the methods. 

My mum used to give me a mental arithmetic book and a pencil during my summer holidays and say “finish this chapter and you’ll get 50 pence”. By the end of the summer I had enough to buy myself a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. 

Anyway, enough about my weird and wonderful childhood as a brown Pakistani kid forced to ace his way through school to become a doctor… 

This is about you – and your future as a life coach. 

If you want to become a successful coach, like it or not, you’re going to have to master marketing for yourself. (Or pay someone like me a LOT of money to do it for you). 

The good news is, it’s a LOT easier than you think. 

(It’s way easier than long multiplication.) 

And you don’t have to be particularly gifted or smart. 

If you can talk, you can write marketing copy.

As a couple of my friends said before the game: it’s gonna be a very tough semi-final between England… 

…and FIFA. 

In the end it wasn’t biased pro-Messi, pro-Argentina refereeing that screwed England… 

It was Germany. 

Specifically, our flipping German coach’s 2nd half decisions. 

(Only kidding. Obviously. Don’t start rioting against Germans, and then blaming me for being the instigator.) 

Whenever England play to ‘not lose’ instead of playing to win… guess what happens? (For example, sticking 6 defenders on the pitch against the best attackers in the world… instead of doubling down on trying to actually score more goals than Argentina and forcing them to play defensively). 

And it’s kind of the same in business.

If you play to not lose (eg. worrying about what people will think when you give yourself a title; over-thinking your marketing materials; trying to not get unsubscribes from your email list; lowering your prices in case people say no; posting hopelessly on Anti-Social Media instead meeting real-life people and growing your own database of potential clients etc.)… you’ll end up losing. 

But, instead of being a bit gutted as in the case of football… you’ll be broke. Or worse: stuck for years in a job when you know your true passion and mission is to coach people for a living. 

Anyway, you may have absolutely zero control over who wins the football world cup and what decisions England’s German coach makes.

But you do have 100% control over winning a steady stream of coaching clients into your business. 

You can make it inevitable that people start signing up to hear from you… and then start hiring you on the regular. 

It’s nothing fancy. Doesn’t require AI. Definitely doesn’t require Anti-Social Media. 

All it takes is knowing the system that’s worked for me and thousands of others.

Skill #1: Coaching 

If you want to be a successful coach, you need to have some coaching skills. That is literally what people are paying you for, after all. 

Skill #2: Intro Sessions

If you want to become extremely good at coaching, it would help if you had some actual paying clients that you can practice on, all day long. 

In order for that to happen, you’ll want to develop the skill of giving someone an Introductory Session that actually leads to them signing up to a contract to work with you – ideally over the long term. 

All I’ll say about this for now is: if you do a ‘sales’ session, it won’t work. And if you do a ‘normal’ coaching session, it won’t work. 

Instead, there’s a way of delivering a super-powerful intro-session that gets the potential client drooling at the thought of working with you to transform their life.

But, before we get ahead of ourselves… in order to generate a never-ending stream of people wanting to even take you up on the free Introductory Coaching Session, you need skill #3… which might seem a bit weird… 

Skill #3: Bullet Points. 

If you listen carefully, in the back of your mind, you should now hear the sound of a record screeching to a halt. 

“What the heck are bullet points and what does that have to do with the price of fish?!” 

Bullet points are the central, most important ‘mechanical’ skill of copywriting (the art of writing words that inspire people to take action). 

If you can write bullet points, deliver intro sessions and coach… then you’ve got the keys to the kingdom of never-ending clients. 

But, if you don’t know how to write great marketing copy (the most important part of which is writing great bullet points), then, you could be a great coach… but we’ll never find out because you never got enough clients to refine your skills.

Recently, a well-known fem-preneur sent an email that I could tell was just a little bit too… Cheat-GPT. 

Now the question I have for you is: is it worse that I immediately recognized the email was written by Cheat-GPT, or is it worse that I kept reading to the end?!

I see the temptation, believe me I do – to be able to outsource things without hiring a copywriter, or without having to invest 20 minutes yourself on a cloudy Monday morning to sit down and write a message from your heart. 

I see the temptation. But I also know that all temptation leads somewhere you don’t want to go.

I don’t care how fancy technology gets. I don’t care how good Cheat-GPT or FRAUDE gets… or whatever other fancy AI comes out promising to replace human soul. 

You will NEVER receive a single email from me that I didn’t write with my own two hands. This shouldn’t have to be a ‘unique selling point’, but in our current sad state of affairs, it is. 

And my highest recommendation to you, as someone wise enough to be subscribed to my emails, is to never outsource your own creativity to AI either. 

Not because it can’t work sometimes, but because it might work just well enough that you start using it… until it damages your reputation in the long term.

Guess what I did as soon as I realized that fempreneur was sending me a Cheat-GPT email? 

Same thing I do with any fake-robot-written email.

I clicked that big, beautiful unsubscribe link at the bottom of her email. 

And if you ever catch me sending a Cheat-GPT email, I invite you to do the same.

“The ego provides a never-ending business model.” 

Here’s what I mean: 

Sometimes, as coaches and/or spiritual teachers, we can get fixated on the solution that will make all of our clients’ problems disappear. 

For example, my personal favorite “inner-game” solutions are Prophetic Presence, the Inner Salam Method and The Psychological Switch. 

As enjoyable as it is for me to teach all of these things to clients who are paying attention, it’s equally important that I never forget that nobody actually ever signs up for the deep truths I want to share

What people sign up for, is to solve the problems that their own egos are creating. 

For example: 

• the problem of feeling insecure about being single at a certain phase in life;
  
• or fear of losing a partner or not being able to make a relationship work
  
• or the desire to grow a business with as many clients as possible
  
• or feeling embarrassed about being out of shape
  
• or being frustrated at kids who don’t pay attention
  
• Ad infinitum

There is no end to the myriad of ways in which the ego will, time and time again, trick totally innocent, well-meaning, even growth-oriented people into completely sabotaging themselves. 

Our job as coaches is to identify those tricks, shed light and awareness on them, and invite people into a sacred relationship where we can coach them through it.

The deep spiritual teachings we want to share, or the techniques we want to use do not provide a never-ending business model. 

The ego does.

Keep your message focused on solving problems that your client’s ego creates and you’ll never run out of content and never stop changing people’s lives. 

Anyway, if your ego has any fear, insecurity or self-doubt around your ability to attract an never-ending stream of clients, then tune into your True Self and you might find that your God-given intuition is gently guiding you right over here:

I have a couple of big projects that I’m launching in my main business, and I was thinking through which campaign should happen at which time. 

As it happens, it was also Ramadan, and I always feel the urge to do something special for my folks during this time of year. 

But nothing was coming to me, I couldn’t get all my systems set up in time, and I was getting frustrated. Should I do a Ramadan workshop (which has worked really well in the past) or offer coaching sessions, or launch a new product, or offer a Ramadan product bundle I’ve already created with a massive discount?

The moment I noticed that I was getting stressed about getting things done in time for Ramadan, I remembered a very important business maxim: 

Nothing in business is ever urgent.

This may not be true for all businesses, but it is absolutely true for mine. I run my business the way I want. It’s a lifestyle-based business. If I don’t want to work, I don’t. If I don’t want to be stressed, there’s literally never any reason to be.

I don’t get involved much in live launches for this very reason. 

I want a very relaxed and profitable business, not a stressful one. Because I’m a life coach by profession, there literally never needs to be any stress in my business, and I can go for months – even years – without experiencing the feeling of stress in any way, shape or form when it comes to my business and financial life. 

It’s a pretty lovely place to be.

And I’ll tell you the secret to getting there.

The secret is to do exactly what I did when I noticed myself experiencing a twinge of stress before Ramadan: I stopped what I was doing, shut the laptop, sat cross-legged, and did the…

Inner Salam Method.

If we haven’t spent much time together, you might not know what the Inner Salam Method is. 

It’s the label I like to give to what Eckhart Tolle calls “meditating on the pain body”, what David Hawkins calls the Surrender Mechanism, what Christian Mickelsen calls the Peace Process, and what Tom Stone calls the Pure Awareness Technique. 

Call it whatever you want, but for the love of God, do it!

If you want a stress-free business, I recommend you do it the moment you notice yourself experiencing any amount of stress around money, marketing, clients, income, business, or anything like that. 

Quit what you’re doing, quiet your mind and observe the physical sensation of the feeling until it completely dissipates and goes down to a ‘zero’ level of intensity (on a scale of 1-to-10).

As soon as you clear your mind and pay attention to how you’re experiencing the feeling in your body, you’ll normally notice a shift. And as soon as you get to zero negative feeling in the body, by simply being present and observing it, you’re good to go.

In my case, right after doing it, I decided on a campaign, which I ran to my main email list and over a couple of quick-and-easy-to-write emails, filled up a few intro sessions and generated over £15k in about a week. 

Zero stress. 

All profit. 

And I felt great about it every step of the way.

As soon as I went on, I was immediately reminded that on this platform, there are thousands of people with no business experience whatsoever who are selling something they don’t have. They’re business ‘coaches’ who have no business.  

You can almost tell just by looking at their profile.

I saw one in particular who has relatively few followers on Instagram. That’s no big deal in itself – you could have an enormous email list and no social media following – but when I looked a bit closer at their website, they had no way of opting in. 

The so-called “business advice” they were offering was clearly nonsense and had no basis in reality. 

I’ve also seen very successful social media “artists” with big personalities who grew massive followings (which is great for them!), but I can tell from the way that they’re making their offers that there is no chance they’re being financially successful despite that huge followership. 

Any influencer will tell you: a big social media following does NOT equal a big income. 

It can certainly help if you know how to set things up the right way, but it turns out most people don’t have a clue how to make it work.

Why am I sharing all of this with you?

Because I’ve had several clients over the last few years ask me how to grow their following on social media in order to grow an email list and eventually get clients, and I tell them the same thing I’m going to tell you right now: 

That’s the long, slow, hard and unlikely way to be successful in coaching. 

There are certainly hacks out there that can speed things up, and if you really love the social media game, I can show you how to make it work. But if you’re not super into social media and you don’t love using it, my number one advice is: don’t. 

What you can do instead is (and here’s the big take-away for today)… 

Use those platforms to advertise on, ONLY. 

Use real ads, where you pay money to get the message out – and enjoy all of the fruits of Mark Zuckerberg’s platform without letting your time, energy and mental bandwidth get sucked into it.

Otherwise, you might end up like the broke Instagram business coaches who spend all day posting, because they’ve literally got no paid work to deliver on.
