Nightmare On Tech Street

For most coaches, there's something way more scary than Freddie Kruger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Mike Myers from Halloween, and Vecna from Stranger Things…

You guessed it…

The biggest nightmare when starting your business is realising that even if you want a totally in-person, face-to-face coaching business, you still need to use… TECHNOLOGY.

This often comes as a bit of a shock to people who are starting up their coaching business for the first time.

In fact, here are some of the delights you can look forward to if you're serious about making big money as a professional coach. (Note: you can actually use this list as a step-by-step guide to setting up the tech you need to run your coaching business):

  • Put up a website that you can edit yourself in the back-end

  • Hook up your website with a software that easily creates opt-in pages and sales pages

  • Get your email system (auto-responder) to generate some html code that you can insert into your sales page or lead-page so you can capture people's names and email addresses from your website

  • Set up an automation to automatically send people the ‘gift' that they opt-in for

  • Send broadcast emails out using your email system (so everyone on your list receives an email at the same time)

  • Send ‘autoresponder' emails out using your email system (so people can get certain emails a set number of days after they join your list)

  • Set up a payment gateway that hooks up with your bank account

  • Set up a shopping cart that you can use to enter people's card information so that they're billed automatically every month

  • Hook up your payment gateway with your shopping cart so that when you charge people inside your shopping cart, the money actually shows up a few days (or hours) later in your bank account

  • Set up ‘product order forms' in your shopping cart that match the price points of your coaching programs and info-products

  • Hook up your sales page with the order form in your shopping cart

  • And, if you want to get fancy and have information products, you'll also want to hook up the ‘product' in your shopping cart with the membership site where you host the information product videos.

  • Set up a sequence of automated and broadcast emails people get when they buy your coaching program(s) that informs them of the day, time, link, etc.

  • Setting up an online calendar system that you link to in certain emails so that multiple people can schedule themselves into your calendar at convenient times

That's the absolute bare minimum of tech set up you'll need to run a coaching business that's capable of going from zero to multi-six figures. There are a few more steps if you want it to get to 7-figures, mostly to do with the ease of setting up your information products and affiliate links, to make it easier for people to promote you.

Sure, you can skip a lot of these steps, but you'll end up creating a lot of clutter and mess and coming across a bit unprofessional… and spend a lot of time responding to questions like: “where's my stuff, when are our sessions, where can I find the Zoom link, etc… “

Or worse, you'll be trying to track and chase down individual clients to fulfil their payment plans (instead of the system doing that for you and locking them out if they don't respond).

The value of your presence

How much is your presence really worth?

As coaches, all we really do is give people the opportunity to buy our presence, packaged up in a convenient way.

Why would anyone invest in that? What's really in it for them?

When you give your full presence and attention to someone, in the structure of a coaching session, they…

  • They automatically become more present themselves than they likely would have, without you.

  • They pay more attention to what they're saying and become more aware of language and thought patterns they're repeating

  • They drop unconscious ways they've been using to sabotage their goals and dreams, by simply becoming aware of them

  • They are more likely to have insightful realisations about themselves, their goals, and gain crystal clear insight on the path forward

  • They can finally express themselves in ways that they can't with their family, friends and co-workers… and they can finally be free to be themselves

  • They discover they can be, do and have a lot more than they ever thought possible, because with a free and quiet mind… anything is possible

  • They feel heard and seen and that leads to inspiration and uplifting energy

  • They can share all their ‘baggage' without being concerned that it might ‘stick' to you, bring you down, or that you'll think less of them

  • They can feel normal about – and let go of – all their ‘stuff' because of the space of non-judgement you've created
  • 1 + 1 = 1,000. There's a powerful effect of the coaching process, where your presence as Coach, plus their presence as Client leads to much more change than either one of you could have created by trying to figure it out on your own.

In my personal experience, this simple process of being in the presence of a fully-present coach has been by far the single most powerful catalyst for my own transformation.

Pretty much all of my substantial goals were achieved through working directly with a coach, getting clear and focused and letting go of my inner-blocks. All of this happened through the power of the coach's non-judgmental, neutral, loving presence.

What you bring to people can't be quantified – only the results that show up afterwards can be. But if you ask any of my clients – they'll all say that in the end, the result was minor compared with the tremendous inner-transformation they experienced.

The Millionaire Course

A couple of years back, I read a blog post of an interview transcript between Steve Pavlina (one of the world's top personal development bloggers) and Marc Allen.

It caught my eye because the overall gist was that Marc somehow ‘manifested' his millions, without taking the typical, linear approach to business and making money.

Pretty soon I picked up his book: The Millionaire Course. In the book he gives a pretty cool process for aligning your mind and thoughts with achieving the goals you want, which I'm currently testing – outlined below.

One thing you should absolutely know about Marc Allen, if you've never heard of him, is that within a short time of using his Millionaire Visioning process… he started a publishing company… just about managed to break even, then eventually made a profit… and then, shortly thereafter, through some twist of fate…

…landed a client whose name you may have heard:

Eckhart Tolle.

Yep, the Eckhart Tolle.

As in… The Power of Now. A New Earth. Oprah's guru. That guy.

Anyone whose visualisation gets them to vibe on a level where that guy shows up as a client, is something that certainly catches my attention.

Here's the short version of his Millionaire Visioning Process:

  1. Write out your ‘Ideal Scene' – where you want your life and business to be 5 years in the future, with no limitations

  2. List out the goals that are implied by that Ideal Scene

  3. Turn those goals into present-tense, believable affirmations. I call these ‘intentions' – they're like a super-inspiring mix of an affirmation and a goal.

  4. Engage with those intentions each day

  5. Notice how all the plans and opportunities fall into place all around you, effortlessly

  6. Ignore, transcend and let go of any ego-based, self-sabotaging ‘junk' thoughts

  7. Thank God for the results as they show up

My process for creating a Never Ending Stream Of Clients is mostly ‘left-brain'. You could think of it as the kind of plan that shows up when you've been visualising, affirming or praying for a successful coaching business.

Create a vacuum of value

Struggling Coaches wait until they get paid before sharing their ‘secrets'.

Rich Coaches give away their very best ideas, for free, to everyone.

There may be an argument for some kinds of information-product marketers to keep some information hidden away inside their products. But for a coach, the more freely you give and teach, the more abundantly you'll receive.

My best ideas on Islamic Spirituality and personal transformation are in my book, “Inside the Soul of Islam”, which is available for few quid on Amazon. It literally contains the same information people have paid me anywhere from £300 to £15,000 to deliver in other formats. The book is not a money-maker. But it is a life-changer. And unsurprisingly some of my best clients are people who read the book, then promptly look me up and hire me.

The “How Rich Coaches Think” summit was totally free even though the insights that came from each of the speakers (who, incidentally, spoke for free) were worth their weight in gold.

And every working day, I aim to create at least one piece of content.

Some of that comes to you in the form of these emails, sometimes it's a podcast, sometimes it's an interview that you may not see for several months. But I'm always putting together my best ideas into an easy-to-consume format that's designed to give you value and make you richer.

Is all of this done from pure altruism…?

Well, not exactly.

The content itself is given away freely and fearlessly. That automatically creates a ‘vacuum of value' where you're touching people all over the world and transforming their lives… and the Universe hates a vacuum. So it fills it by rushing to bring you clients.

As one Sufi Spiritual Master once told me:

When you give freely and abundantly, Allah, the Most Generous, says:

“My dear servant, you think you're being generous? Here, let me show you true Generosity.”

That ‘vacuum of value' you create automatically results in multitudes more coming back to you. But only every time.

If you want to 10X your income, create 10x times more value for the world than you currently are.

Some people will soak up the free information… but as long as you provide some kind of container for receiving money (such as your coaching program), you'll soon find yourself with more clients than you can handle.

2 ways to never get clients

After working with hundreds of coaches on how to set up a successful coaching business, I've noticed there are 2 things that seriously slow everyone down:

  1. No Niche
  2. Technology Nightmares

These are both way more easily solve-able than you might think.

PROBLEM ONE: THE NICHE

For the ‘No Niche' problem, I've helped literally hundreds of coaches figure out their niche, each in the space of about 11 minutes. I recently took all of the different ways I've ever used to figure out and pinpoint exactly what someone's most authentic, heart-aligned niche is, and got it down to 21 powerfully effective Niche-Identification methods that I cover in a program called: “Your Perfect Niche”.

PROBLEM TWO: THE TECH

Instead of creating a hundred tech problems for yourself to get your coaching business up and running – create just one. Find one of the half a dozen or so online business systems that are out there that do everything you'll ever need to grow your coaching business from zero to 7-figures and beyond.

You'll still take a while to adapt to it – just like you did when you first started using Microsoft Word or Excel, but…

…When you've gotten used to it and had a bit of back and forth with the software's support team (and hopefully realised they're actually super helpful!), then you'll be set up for massive long-term success.

Everything from setting up your website and opt-in page to sending emails to your new list to building info-products that you can get everyone to promote – can all happen within one relatively easy-to-use system… instead of 10 different systems that don't play well with each other.

You can be a ‘One Wo/Man Band' who builds up a multi six or even seven figure coaching business by implementing the ‘Never Ending Stream Of Clients' system – without spending half of your earnings on an expensive team that you have to babysit.

Eventually, when you can do the basics yourself, you can invest in maybe one Virtual Assistant who can do the tech things more quickly and easily than you and won't be able to mess you around, because you know how long certain things are supposed to take… freeing you up to do what you love and what you get paid for: COACHING.

Granted, there will still be glitches along the way as you get things set up. And you may not be in a position to hire a Virtual Assistant right now.

John Lennon’s Content Creation Secret

A question came up the other day in my Rich Coach Mastermind:

“You say we should create as much content as possible – at least one solid piece of content per day (eg. an email, video, podcast, etc.)… but what if I don't have the motivation to do it? I've been trying, but it's hard to keep it up.”

My Answer:

No kidding! It is super hard to do. That's why no-one does it. And that's why the few who do become ‘superstars' in their niche and with their target audience.

However, grinding hard all day isn't my idea of a fun time.

My motivation to write daily and produce content regularly comes from a couple of places:

ONE: The Message

I really, really believe in my message. I believe that ‘The Psychological Switch' has the power to save and transform lives… and that Professional Coaches like you and me are the best “messengers” for it… when we first figure out how to set up our businesses and sign up clients.

TWO: Fun!

I have a ton of fun thinking up and writing these email articles. I get to share something super-valuable in a way that's fun for me. Same with the ‘In The Moment with Mamoon' podcast. I'm not super keen on social media and i hate photos… so I avoid taking too many of me with my shirt off in front of a waterfall, then posting it publicly, hoping for likes. If my content strategy depended on me doing things I don't like… I wouldn't be able to do it long-term.

THREE: Money.

Which brings us to John Lennon.

Someone once claimed that the Beatles were not materialistic, to which Paul McCartney burst into laughter, responding that when they wanted something like a new house or an extension… “John and I would literally sit down and say: let's write a swimming pool!”

One of the main reasons people don't create content consistently is that their business (and mindset) isn't set up in a way that connects the content creation they're doing to real-world money in the bank.

It can be hard to sit down to write. But it's a whole lot easier when you're virtually guaranteed a new client or a couple of grand in product sales each time you do it.

Think about this:

If Paul McCartney and John Lennon hadn't connected up in their heads that more songs written = more money in the bank, you and I may never had heard:

“Let It Be”

or

“All You Need Is Love”.

What a sad world that would be.

Short story long: if you want to set your business and life up in a way where you can create content that's meaningful to you, and that you enjoy making, all the while knowing that it will absolutely inevitably lead to more clients and cash, then…

…You don't need to put in a “Hard Days Night”

…Or work “Eight Days A Week”.

Instead, jump into your Yellow Submarine, Get Back to this webclass, and With A Little Help From My Friends and I… you'll soon have enough content written to be a world-famous, well-paid coach and maybe even a Paperback Writer.
